Koay, Yong Zhuang (2020) E-books web crawling application with recommendation system. Final Year Project, UTAR.
Abstract
Reading is not just fundamental, it educates humans since long ago. In this generation full of technologies, almost everyone has a phone, they could use this application to read ebooks anytime, anywhere. This application aims to solve the problem where people search the internet looking for the books, they want but may ended up being the victim of search poisoning. With the help of web crawlers’ automation, this could ensure the up-to-date e-books database. Hence, users can find the e-books that they possibly find in the internet through this application. The more they read e-books, the lesser chance they buy physical book, and therefore could help to reduce the deforestation. Gamification is a good concept that helps in creating an engaging environment. Therefore, this application will implement this concept to encourage reading and help people to regain their interest on reading. Moreover, no advertisements will be added in the application to ensure the users have the best reading experience. Content based recommendation system and collaborative filtering will be implemented in this application to provide recommendations according to the user’s activities, histories or favourites. If the recommendations capture the user’s interest, the user may end up reading more and more e-books.
