Abstract
The rapid advancement of financial technology has accelerated the adoption of mobile payment applications in Malaysia, supporting the transition towards a cashless society. While these platforms provide convenience and efficiency, concerns have emerged regarding their impact on individuals’ financial behaviour, particularly personal saving habits. This study examines the influence of mobile payment app adoption on personal saving behaviour, with financial literacy as a key factor. A quantitative, cross-sectional research design was adopted. Data were collected through a structured online questionnaire distributed to Malaysian mobile payment users, yielding 275 valid responses. The data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The study investigates four key relationships: the effects of transparency and perceived ease of use on mobile payment adoption, the relationship between adoption and financial literacy, and the influence of financial literacy on personal saving behaviour. The findings indicate that transparency and perceived ease of use significantly influence mobile payment adoption. Mobile payment adoption is positively associated with financial literacy, which in turn enhances personal saving behaviour. All proposed hypotheses were supported. This study contributes by providing an integrated framework linking mobile payment adoption, financial literacy, and saving behaviour in Malaysia, and offers practical insights for promoting responsible financial practices in a digital economy. Keywords: Mobile Payment Adoption, Financial Literacy, Personal Saving Behaviour
