Abstract

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) has become an important urban planning approach in improving public transportation usage and reducing dependency on private vehicles in urban areas. In Klang Valley, the expansion of MRT and LRT systems has encouraged the development of TOD environments to encourage the use of public transportation and promote sustainable travel behaviour. However, university students still face several transportation issues such as traffic congestion, long travel time, poor connectivity, and safety concerns when using public transport. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify the TOD factors that influence students’ travel behaviour and to analyse the relationship between TOD factors and students’ travel behaviour in Klang Valley. The TOD factors examined in this study include accessibility, connectivity, convenience, and safety. Questionnaires were distributed to university students in Klang Valley, and a total of 150 responses were collected. The collected data were analysed using regression analysis to examine the relationship between TOD factors and students’ travel behaviour. The findings showed that all TOD factors significantly influence students’ travel behaviour, with convenience identified as the strongest influencing factor. Therefore, improving TOD features may encourage greater public transport usage and support sustainable mobility among students in Klang Valley. However, this study is limited to university students in Klang Valley and relies only on questionnaire-based data collection. Future research is recommended to include a larger sample size, wider geographical coverage, and additional TOD-related variables to obtain more comprehensive findings.
