Abstract
Lack of parental supervision on children is common in current times, leading to potential issues academically, and study completion. Moreover, prolonged hours of sitting during study contributes to posture issues, which are common among people but tend to be ignored. Posture issue awareness, combined with children’s studying well-being, can be supported or solved by their guardians, however due to the demanding nature of their work, majority of parents are unable to keep track of their children’s well-being. The result of this project, Monitra, is developed to solve this situation. Monitra is a prototype that monitors children's study habits and posture during study sessions, leveraging Visual Language Model (VLM) technology for its ability to capture contextual information of human actions. It contains 2 applications, a desktop processing client for children responsible for frame grabbing and processing from webcam or an external camera that supports RTSP URL, and a mobile visualisation client for parents that has dashboard information and push notification. Through the evaluation results, it is found that Visual Language Model (VLM) are able to perform monitoring tasks and perform exceptionally well in their tasks when utilising an external camera.
