    Abstract

Work-life balance (WLB) is a growing concern among Malaysian auditors, as high stress, long hours, and demanding deadlines challenge their well-being. This study explores the role of mindfulness in enhancing WLB, with work engagement acting as a mediator among Malaysian audit professionals. Drawing from Fredrickson’s broaden-and-build theory, this research examines how mindfulness can foster positive emotions, leading to greater work engagement and improved WLB. A cross-sectional design was used, with data collected from 387 Malaysian auditors through online surveys. The study employed validated measures, including the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), and a WLB scale. Findings revealed a significant positive relationship between mindfulness and WLB, and work engagement partially mediated this relationship. Higher mindfulness levels among auditors were associated with increased work engagement, which, in turn, contributed to better WLB. These insights suggest that mindfulness practices can effectively foster a more balanced and engaged workforce in high-stress professions. The outcomes offer practical recommendations for audit firms to incorporate mindfulness-based interventions, potentially reducing turnover rates and promoting a healthier work environment
