Abstract
Mamak Dreams is a 3D cooking simulation game management where players operate an authentic Malaysian Mamak stall. Players are young chefs who, after losing their job, aim to provide Malaysian food using a stall. Players must serve food, make money, keep the stall clean, and avoid the problem of dirty urban levels. They will unlock levels and progress from a small wooden stall to a fully established shop. The game includes cooking mechanics, time management, and simulation. The game embraces a strategy, multitasking, and problem-solving approach. The game is enhanced with Malaysian cultural elements. Some of the Malaysian culture elements include the authentic cuisine, stall setups, urban rural settings, and customer behaviors. The main focus of the development of The Mamak Dreams is the 3D gaming implementation of Malaysian traditional culture, revealing dual purposes of video games for education and entertainment. The game provides intricate 3D environments, realistic cooking, and flexible customer experiences to provide the worlds of culinary and management. This study uses collected gameplay observations and player feedback to see how player engagement and appreciation for Malaysian food can be increased and how gameplay can be made to be culturally immersive to players. This study draws the conclusion that an immersive and educational simulation can be made through the combination of real culture along with gameplay and visually engaging environments. The results of this study, touch upon how to keep gameplay engaging while educating players on cultural traditions through the players’ interactions with it while maintaining the gameplay, and offer how to design culturally immersive 3D games for players.
