Abstract

In the last two years, the pandemic of COVID-19 exerts considerable influence over the learning and teaching mode in a global context. Schools around the world must go on lockdown in response to government policies for safety reasons. Meanwhile, students and teachers have to isolate themselves at home. As a result, online classes seemingly become the only viable solution to tackle the problem faced by all stakeholders in the education system. Malaysia is one of the countries that conducted and staged the lockdown policies, called Movement Control Order (MCO). All higher education institutions followed the relevant instructions and started the E-learning classes across the nation. This study aims to investigate student engagement in E-learning classes under the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, two aspects are expected to be answered, which are the level of engagement and undergraduates’ perception of engagement regarding the context mentioned above. The present study is conducted online by applying Young and Bruce’s (2011) self-reported questionnaire. With the sample of 100 undergraduates in FAS of UTAR Kampar campus, this research found a moderately high level of engagement exits and there remain both negative and positive attitudes towards E-learning among the students
