    Abstract

This study examine the influence of cybersecurity awareness (CSA) on financial fraud prevention behavior (FFPB) among young Malaysians, a demographic increasingly vulnerable to cyber-enabled crimes due to high digital engagement. With the rapid adoption of online banking, e-wallets, and e-commerce platforms, financial fraud has become a pressing concern, yet research has largely overlooked youth-focused behavioral prevention. Drawing upon Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this research develops a comprehensive framework linking CSA to fraud prevention through threat and coping appraisals, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among Malaysian youths aged 18–30, utilizing validated measurement scales analyzed via Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS. The study aims to provide empirical evidence on how awareness shapes motivation, intentions, and behaviors in fraud prevention. Theoretically, it extends PMT and TPB into the cybersecurity and financial fraud domain, while practically offering insights for educators, policymakers, and financial institutions to design targeted awareness campaigns and digital literacy programs. By addressing gaps in existing research and incorporating key moderating factors, this work contributes to both scholarly knowledge and practical fraud prevention strategies in the digital economy.
