Abstract
Student identity management in universities is critical for accessing resources but traditionally relies on easily forgeable physical cards and centralized databases. These legacy frameworks face escalating vulnerabilities regarding security and student data privacy. This project addresses these critical deficiencies by establishing the Forgery Resistant Decentralized Digital Student Identity (FRDDSID) system as an architectural prototype, fully realized in the finalized UNICESS mobile application. Synergizing blockchain technology with Android development, the system utilizes a custom Solidity smart contract on the Ethereum Sepolia Testnet to create a decentralized backend. UNICESS integrates Web3j and the MetaMask SDK to ensure user-controlled transaction execution without exposing private keys. The platform's core innovation is a multi-layered cryptographic architecture. Off-chain personal data is secured using AES-GCM encryption prior to on-chain storage, maintaining confidentiality and immutable transparency. For authentication, hardware-backed biometrics are paired with on-chain data to generate dynamic QR codes. Upon scanning, validators verify the signature and permanently burn the QR hash on-chain, effectively preventing screenshot replay attacks. A localized Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) AI chatbot is also integrated for instant institutional assistance. Ultimately, UNICESS demonstrates a highly secure, transparent, and user-centric model. The dynamic verification mechanism neutralizes forgery vectors, confirming the viability of Web3 architectures in replacing traditional identification frameworks.
