Abstract
In this project, a mobile application named FoodWise was developed for logging meals, tracking nutrient intake, and receiving personalised meal recommendations. Many individuals struggle to maintain balanced nutrition, especially those with health conditions, due to irregular eating habits and the lack of personalised dietary guidance. In the literature review, MyFitnessPal, YAZIO, HealthifyMe, Eatr, Foodvisor, and Lifesum were reviewed. These existing applications focus mainly on calorie counting and general nutrient tracking, and personalised meal recommendations based on health conditions are not available. As a result, balanced nutrient intake is difficult to manage. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop a mobile application that can log meals, track nutrients, and generate personalised meal recommendations. The scope includes user authentication, health information input, daily nutrient breakdown, and personalised meal recommendations for five categories, which are diabetes, hypertension, obesity, heart disease, and no chronic disease. The methodology was carried out using the Agile methodology. Flutter and Firebase were used to develop the mobile application, while FastAPI was used to deploy the recommendation model. A Linear Regression model was trained to generate recommended protein, carbohydrate, and fat intake values. The model achieved strong performance with an R² score of 0.936 and lower error values compared to Random Forest Regressor and Multilayer Perceptron Regressor models. In conclusion, this project successfully developed a meal logging and nutrient tracking application that assists users in monitoring their daily nutrient intake while receiving personalised meal recommendations based on their health conditions. Other functions, such as custom meal creation, community forum, personalised nutritional advice, and reminders, were successfully developed for users. Moreover, the management of user accounts, admin registrations, meals, and reported posts and comments were also developed for admins. For future work, a longer period of nutrient progress tracking, meal recognition using image processing, integration of wearable devices, and expansion of the meal database will be completed.
