Abstract
Malaysia’s transportation is becoming more and more developed. Due to the population growth, the number of daily trips made by Malaysian is increasing day by day. In addition to taking a private car and using taxi booking services, people can also use public transportation to reach their destinations. However, the navigation system in Malaysia currently has still immature, especially for public transportation. Therefore, this project aims to develop a navigation system specifically for public transportation in Malaysia. JomNaik is a mobile application where it is developed for Android users. It focuses on displaying the real-time position of public transportation and updated estimated arrival times. This project adopted the incremental development approach that breaking down the system into smaller pieces, allowing the application to be built and delivered in small, functional units over time. The core features of this system are providing real-time bus tracking, allowing passengers to plan their trips with public transportation, and receiving push notifications when the targeted bus is approaching. A segment-based ETA prediction model was created to provide ETA for every live bus. This system also uses GTFS-RT vehicle location data provided by public transportation agencies, such as MyRapid, to always update the location of public transportation. This project uses Flutter as a tool platform to develop applications. All ETA-related data will be stored in PostgreSQL for analysis. The expected outcome is a reliable and user-friendly navigation system that allows users to estimate the time when planning to travel to their destination with public transit in Penang, Malaysia.
